Evelyn Ficarra's most recent work, 'vagues / fenêtres' for string trio and electronics was premièred in Nice in the Manca Festival on November 18th, 2009 and received its North American première one month later in Berkeley, where it was produced by the Berkeley New Music Project. The piece was written in response to a residency in Nice on a FACE Fellowship in 2008 (French American Cultural Exchange) and is concerned with a multiplicity of waves, from gentle ripples to tsunami; the notion of a window as both barrier and connection; conflicts of scale; and tensions between line / mass, movement / stasis, narrative / fragmentation.
